Georgia buys through a central state purchasing office, and its cities, counties and school districts buy on their own as well. To sell to the state you register once as a vendor, then watch for solicitations in your commodity codes and respond by the deadline. This page covers the state registration steps, where bids are posted and the programs that help small businesses, with links to the official pages.
How to register as a Georgia vendor
- Open GA@WORK Marketplace for Suppliers, enter your email and click Create Account.
- Enter the legal company name (it must match line 1 of your W-9), EIN, optional DUNS, and a primary contact, then accept the terms and create the account.
- Confirm the account validation email, set your password, accept the terms again and log in to continue registration.
- Add NIGP commodity codes; they are optional, but you need at least one to receive bid notices by email and to be listed on the Georgia Procurement Registry.
- Answer the small business, minority-owned and small disadvantaged business questions, check the certification box and submit.
- Watch the Georgia Procurement Registry and respond to sourcing events in GA@WORK.
Registration gets you on the state's list, but it rarely sends you every relevant bid. Many agencies, and most local governments, post on their own portals. A free BidsNexus alert watches the state portal and Georgia's local agencies for you and emails the matches each morning.
Small business and certification programs
- Georgia Business Certification Program: Certifies Georgia-domiciled minority-, women- and veteran-owned businesses (with small business versions) that already hold certification from an approved partner such as GDOT, GWBC, NaVOBA or the SBA; certified firms are flagged in the supplier database, and primes that subcontract with them can take a Georgia income tax adjustment.
Federal set-asides work differently from state programs; see our guide to small business set-asides.
Cities, counties and school districts
Georgia law requires state and local government bids for goods or services of $100,000 or more, and public works of $100,000 or more, to be posted on the Georgia Procurement Registry, which is free for local governments to use, so GPR also carries city, county and other local bids.
Local bids are where most small businesses win their first contracts: smaller dollar values, shorter responses and less competition from national firms. BidsNexus collects them into one list, so you can browse every open Georgia bid in one place.
Tips specific to Georgia
- Without at least one NIGP code you will get no bid emails and will not show on the GPR supplier listing.
- Make sure the legal name you enter matches line 1 of your W-9 exactly.
- Supplier account maintenance, payments and invoices move to a separate GA@WORK Supplier Management portal; see the State Accounting Office supplier update page (https://sao.georgia.gov/supplier-update).
- State Purchasing help desk: 404-657-6000 or procurementhelp@doas.ga.gov.
