Mississippi buys through a central state purchasing office, and its cities, counties and school districts buy on their own as well. To sell to the state you register once as a vendor, then watch for solicitations in your commodity codes and respond by the deadline. This page covers the state registration steps, where bids are posted and the programs that help small businesses, with links to the official pages.

How to register as a Mississippi vendor

  1. Check the MAGIC Vendor Information page (by the first five characters of the vendor name or the 11-digit SAAS vendor number) to see if the business is already registered.
  2. If not, complete the State of Mississippi Supplier Self Registration online, choosing the products you supply so you get RFx (bid) notifications.
  3. After receiving a User ID and Password, attach a W-9 to the supplier account in MAGIC.
  4. Enroll in Paymode, the state's electronic payment system.
  5. Search for RFx opportunities, respond electronically in MAGIC, and receive purchase orders by email.

Registration gets you on the state's list, but it rarely sends you every relevant bid. Many agencies, and most local governments, post on their own portals. A free BidsNexus alert watches the state portal and Mississippi's local agencies for you and emails the matches each morning.

Small business and certification programs

Federal set-asides work differently from state programs; see our guide to small business set-asides.

Cities, counties and school districts

The state's buy page says state and local governments may use ITS EPLs (state contracts) for technology purchases. The official pages checked do not describe a shared local bidding portal.

Local bids are where most small businesses win their first contracts: smaller dollar values, shorter responses and less competition from national firms. BidsNexus collects them into one list, so you can browse every open Mississippi bid in one place.

Tips specific to Mississippi

  • Converted (older) vendors must email mash@dfa.ms.gov to request a MAGIC User ID and Password.
  • DFA says it is the bidder's responsibility to routinely check the bid site for amendments or clarifications.
  • Technology purchases go through the Department of Information Technology Services (ITS), not OPTFM.
  • MMRS Call Center: 601-359-1343, option 2.
